Another great tool to try out is Mobile Assistant (http://www.mobileassistant.us). They provide voice to text services, however the transcription is done by an actual live transcriptionist! Definitely worth it!

I think the productivity in any business can be greatly improved by using dragons speech recognition software. I personally have found it to be the best.

Voice recognition is not accustomed to the particulars of human speech and does not filter out extraneous speech like, “umms” and “aahs” which a human transcriber will do. Voice recognition software also cannot decipher where some sentences begin and end and cannot separate sentences into paragraphs.

Although I use Dragon for the majority of my transcription, services like iDictate.com and Speakwrite.com are very valuable. These services are great for providing quick transcription, and you really can’t beat having a real transcriptionist preform the work for you. If you are looking for a simple way to outsource your transcription, definitely consider using these types of services. I truly value a company like iDictate that has a CEO that is so protective of his company’s identity.

Steve, I wish to clarify that iDictate was never merged into speakwrite. iDictate is a totally separate company. Three years ago, iDictate launched Quicktate, where short dictations are transcribed by a real typist (rather than by a machine) and returned to the user in minutes, rather than hours or days- an excellent alternative for those wishing to avoid the automated route.
